I just made a trip to my favorite surplus store on my way home from work today...  ;D

Scored a 1.5kVA transformer that weighs 40lbs (20kg) for $20, and a 100 amp switch box for $30.

The transformer should be fun to play with... able to step up 120 to 192-208 at 0.75kW, or 240 to 385-414 at 1.5kW.

Since you seem to be interested in electronics, I thought I'd mention I noticed that this place just listed some 2600 Farad capacitors for a pretty good price.

Didn't know anyone made single caps above 3kF yet... Arrays that large yes, but a single capacitor that large I've yet to see.

I suppose anything is possible if you put your mind and money in the same place.   ::)

Now when you brought this , I think i might overshoot with that number. I Have condensers that I've been using to make those:

And once there was like 9 condensers in one "closet" and 3 of those next to each other so maybe whole array overall had 5kF capacity, it was some time ago so i cant recall exactly.
I guess making single capacitor that big dont rly make sense when you can make array obviously.

That looks like a power-factor correction system.  Usually those have a few 100-1,000 uF, 300-600VAC electrolytic capacitors that are switched in and out as the building's power factor changes throughout the day.

You might be getting confused by the fact that power factor capacitors like those are usually rated with the symbol kVAr, which is an expression of how much reactive power that capacitor can compensate for, rather than uF, which is an expression of how much charge that capacitor can store at a given voltage.

Conventional electrolytic capacitors can usually store between 1uF and 10,000uF at voltages between 10 and 1,000 volts.  Super capacitors are usually found with ratings from 1×10^6uF (1F) to 3×10^9uF (3kF) and are most always rated at 2.5V or 2.7V.

This page explains how super capacitors are different from electrolytic capacitors.

This photo isnt the exact think i was talking about , its just some pic from google.
I've had photos from this device i were talking about but unfortunately some time ago i managed to brick my phone so photos are gone as well :/ .
Dont have time now but i will explain later why I had to use so huge condensers.

P.S.
I wonder if any1 else is actually reading this tread :p

Not sure if anyone still wanna hear my jabbering but i promised :p .
So ye . I had to use this big capacity value because i were installing modules for the biggest scrap-iron recovery factory (not sure if this name makes sense for you :p ) in my area and they have pretty darn big machines there trust me ^^ .

ACR, KoRx, UBP, WrNTS, [STARBURST], and many others are now offline forever.  This project really is the only hope left.
ACR: Too far, 500 ping. KoRx: Lagged, 400 ping, and the US one is 300 ping, also lagged but that has been down for 3 years. UBP: Which one? Technically there are still UBP servers up. [STARBURST] was up a few weeks ago for an unknown reason, and I think I saw kdude there, or was someone else from the starburst community.

Therefore, Tremulous 2 might have the future (or might not, since it isn't developed by a corporations, depends on what Global Government will decide), but Unvarnished doesn't.

Sucks to be those Unvarnished guys.

 - ACR: Ping at 90.
 - KoRX: Ping at 110.
 - The original clan-operated UBP: 80 ping.
 - Starburst: Ping at 50, but Clutch screwed up the QVM and killed the server years ago.  Starburst is now privately operated by Clutch, who was unanimously voted out of Contra clan by the leaders almost a year ago now.
 - WrNTS: Ping at 70.
