Suggestions, ideas / Spacing the game away from genericness.
« on: December 12, 2014, 03:57:22 PM »
Just a few things that I thought about, when thinking about little things that Tremulous had that made it different from other games. I know this is going to be far different from Tremulous, but its worth taking some things into account. These are basic little worries that I thought I'd bring up. Feel free to blow them out the water!

Voices: The human voices in Tremulous had a very cool, gruff, action hero kind of voice. You imagine this gruff man with a smoke between his teeth gunning down wave after wave of aliens. A taunting ring in his voice as he shouts "COME ON".
This is good, its entertaining. One problem I found with Natural Selection 2, for instance, is the marines have very generic voices, too basic "future army" stuff. It got old fast and sounded mostly the same. There were no interesting lines nor voices. Murnatan humans should be instantly recognisable with their voice. They should be remembered.

Movement: Now, this is just basic but.. please don't make humans too slow. Keep the quake-dodging speed bunny hopping kind of feel? Though, by the sounds of it, you have that handled. ;)

Finally, weapon design: The weapons and world of Tremulous was pretty "different". It wasn't all gun-metal grey and dark and opposing like, say, the world of natural selection. While it did have a lot of grey, it was its own style. The thing I worry about is the weapons from this becoming too generic as well. Sci-fi is good and all, but theres a lot of sci-fi games out at the moment. Try not to have generic Sci-Fi-ish stuff.

Edit: Building off of the weapon design. Please, please, please keep the absolutely badass hulking kind of ogre look to the battle suit. Dont make it all boxy or something. The old tremulous battlesuit was intimidating!

Hey! Its been a long, long time since I last posted here, but I've been checking weekly, if not daily, on the progress of this game. I was lying in bed last night, suddenly feeling all nostalgic about my time on your old tremulous server as an admin, the community, the fun, it was all so good. I cant express how overjoyed I am that Murnatan seems to be coming along well and loving the constant updates you are giving out.

Now that I'm writing this, I'm not really that sure how to say what I want to say but.. keep at it! You've got a wonderful community that wants to help out every step of the way! We love this game and everything about it. You're doing great!

Suggestions, ideas / Alien idea: (No purpose)
« on: March 22, 2013, 01:48:15 PM »
Just a idea I whipped up awhile ago. It has no purpose but it probably cant be too hard to give it one. Maybe it has posion by defult or speed in water or something. (Depending on the design)

Sorry the art is so bad, using a laptop track pad. Took ages. There are two designs, fish tail and spike tail. Spike tail also has bone plate armour along its tail. This creature could drag itself around on land and be a rather flat target. If the one with the fin as the tail is used it could be used to fill the role of a water creature for the alien side, since it would fit with the water theme and any water abilitys would make sense. (Maybe extra speed or something?) It would also be able to drag itself out of water and work just as well above ground, because its a flat long target it may be hard to hit, giving it some use. If the spike tail is used, I think posion may work pretty well with it.

Parts of the creatures can be mixed and matched in the design and it will always work. (The fish one can have plain claws, armour. The spike one could have spike claws and no armour)

Discussion / Weapon sounds.
« on: March 21, 2013, 01:07:46 PM »
I would like to ask about the sounds for weapons, since sounds play a very important role in making guns feel GOOD. The feel of a shotgun for instance can be changed by the sounds, the shotgun itself feels its best when it has a deep, thumping blast every time it fires, followed by a metalic Cla-chunk of the slide racking. Giving a shotgun a generic PEW PEW sound would decrease the feel of it. How will the sounds be made and what kind of sounds will you use?

Off topic / Fun MTG cards.
« on: March 20, 2013, 10:23:18 AM »
I know some people on this forum enjoy MTG, so here are some quick cards I whipped up! By the way, the tyant is ment to have the word "loses" instead of "closes". I was not thinking when I wrote it.

Discussion / Alien design and one quick question.
« on: March 20, 2013, 09:57:54 AM »
Will aliens have a change of design and style from the old trem ones? Will they be more organic or will they have the cool trem design where aliens have bone plates as armour? I ask because I have idea's for aliens but I would like to know the style they should have before I start to draw or model a few concept designs.

Also, one other quick question: Will people who have gotten their idea's into the game be mentioned in the credits or something? (E.g, if a user surgested name is chosen, will they get credit for it?) It would motivate people to surgest more stuff and it would be awesome for whoever gets stuff in!

Discussion / Mic in game?
« on: March 19, 2013, 11:02:14 AM »
I am sure I have probably missed this somewhere, but will there be voice chat in game? If there is, will it be team only or for everyone. Will we also be able to mute people?

Suggestions, ideas / Fog, and a smoke screen alien?
« on: March 05, 2013, 05:07:20 PM »
I was thinking, would it not be cool if the game had a nice fog effect for some maps? (Or area's of maps?) Imagine a large alien looming out of the fog and taking a swipe at your head, or becoming quickly lost and seperated from your team mates to await your death by alien hands!

If this gets in, it would also be cool if a type of alien could create fog in smaller rooms and corridors. (Maybe as a replacement for adv basi gas?) This would help smaller and stealthy aliens attack humans, or hide smaller bases. Its a bit of a give away that an alien is around, sure, but where?  ;)
Presumeably, if its going to be a new type of alien then it would need some new looks aswell. It could look slightly like a mara but it has a flatter face and a bulging sack of fog gas stuff attached to its stomache or back. Killing one could release the fog in a small area. (Could be stage 2 or 3. Or more if thats a thing)

Helmets could decrease the effect of the fog and the normal radar will help you pick out team mates and aliens.

Discussion / Tremulous 2 forum. Will it expand?
« on: February 26, 2013, 10:08:07 AM »
I was thinking, will this forum expand to have different sections? (Human weapons, human buildings, aliens, alien buildings, forum games etc.) If the game takes off and becomes popular, (and I hope it does) the forum will probably need to expand. So basicly I was wondering if there are any plans for that already? I assume its not high on the to do list when it comes to making the game great though.

Suggestions, ideas / Spider nests.
« on: February 23, 2013, 07:44:52 PM »
I was thinking, what if aliens had a ground based building: Nest of spiders. Like dretchs but smaller and easier to kill. Here's how it works:
The Nest will spawn small spider like aliens that attack humans that come close. Similar to hives, but based on the ground. Multiple nests could be combined to make swarms of spiders. The spiders themselves would have terrible damage on their own but be extremely effective when the nests are combined.

Perhaps battle suits can not be hurt by them, since they would crush the spiders underfoot.

Quick concept design I just whipped up on mudbox of the nest:
